Gudino Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle
|
In an outing that will go down in the annals of league history, St. Louis first baseman Tony Gudino hit for the cycle, as the Cardinals marched to victory over the San Diego Padres, 5-3.
Gudino collected 4 hits in 5 at-bats, including 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run. He added 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored to help St. Louis take the Petco Park contest.
"It was the last thing on my mind, really," Gudino said. "I'm out there trying to get a blooper or a walk or whatever might help the team. Even if I had wanted to, hitting for the cycle is probably as much about luck as about skill anyway."
Tony Gudino grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI triple in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Chris Stephenson in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
At present, Gudino is batting .300 with 113 hits and 17 home runs. He has knocked in 65 runs and scored 60 times.
