Almost There: St. Louis On Cusp of World Series Triumph After 7-6 Win
|
When the games really matter, the St. Louis Cardinals put on their best show, beating the Los Angeles Angels by a final score of 7-6. Tony Gudino was 3-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. St. Louis now leads Los Angeles 3-1 in the best-of-7 affair.
Batting in the bottom of the tenth, three-time Golden Glove Award winner Jose Natal had a real shot to win the game. Los Angeles pitcher Jose Colon was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Natal hit a run-scoring single. The Cardinals had a walk-off triumph.
"It was a test of wills," said Shawn Sturgess, the St. Louis skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
