Cardinals Clip Mets, 5-4, in DS Contest
The St. Louis Cardinals have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading New York Mets, winning, 5-4, at Busch Stadium. Cardinals left-hander Ric Carnini threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Cardinals to 2-1 in the best-of-5 Division Series.

Had Jose Salas not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Salas hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Cardinals.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Salas.

Game 4 is scheduled for Friday at Citi Field in New York.
