The Tampa Bay Rays powered past the hometown Boston Red Sox, 4-2, in the opener of the WildCard at Fenway Park. Tampa Bay starting pitcher Andy Farrar threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Rays now lead the series 1-0.

Tampa Bay used the timely hitting of Frank Vivar to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Rays on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We'll take some time to unwind," said Farrar, "and then get after it again."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Fenway Park in Boston.
