Winter, Baltimore Start Division Series Strong with Home Win
|
The Baltimore Orioles started the Division Series in style, downing the visiting Cleveland Guardians at Oriole Park at Camden Yards by a score of 9-7 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Orioles left fielder Jimmy Winter was 2-2 with a double, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 4 runs.
Had Billy Jones not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Jones hit a 2-run single. That made the score 7-5, in favor of the Orioles.
"We're happy," Jones told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore.
