Farrar, Rays Take Dramatic Game 1 for 1-0 Series Lead
|
The Tampa Bay Rays started the WildCard in dramatic fashion, stealing Game 1 from the Portland Loggers in a walk-off in the 10th inning. Tampa Bay took the 2-1 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter Andy Farrar. The right-hander threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball in the win, which gave the Rays a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-3 series.
The decisive blow was delivered by Frank Vivar in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a solo home run off former first round draft pick Tim Dukes to win the game for Tampa Bay. The home crowd went nuts.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Portland manager . "We just didn't cash in."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
