Mets Take Down Cubs, 8-4, in 10
|
The New York Mets beat the Chicago Cubs, 8-4, at Wrigley Field. Eric McCullough belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The former first round draft pick was a menace to Chicago all day. Jim Adams earned the save for New York, his 2nd. The Cubs, at 24-40, have lost 4 in a row.
New York used the timely hitting of Mike Pierce to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Mets on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame comments, McCullough said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
