|
The St. Louis Cardinals spoiled a good performance by Philadelphia designated hitter Oscar Alberganza, bumping off Philadelphia, 9-5, at Busch Stadium. Alberganza went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Ric Carnini picked up the win, lifting his record to 4-4 on the season. He struck out 7 and walked 4 in 7 innings, while yielding 5 runs. The save was credited to Nate Morris, his 2nd.
Kevin Stringham, who is tied for 7th in the NL in triples with 2, contributed to the St. Louis win with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the right fielder had 3 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 1 run scored, and 3 RBI.
