Blue Jays Win Thriller, 4-2
|
The Toronto Blue Jays cut down the Seattle Mariners by the score of 4-2, with the largest share of the credit going to center fielder Joe Long. Long hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Blue Jays. Ernie Williams, now 3-0, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. With the win, Toronto goes to 25-32, while the Mariners fall to 25-31.
The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With Toronto trailing 2-1, Long jumped on a cutter from 31-year old right-handed pitcher Al Mesbah and hit a 3-run home run to right. With one swing, the Blue Jays had a walk-off win.
"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," Long said.
