Padres Squelch Giants Offense in Shutout Win
|
The San Diego Padres topped the San Francisco Giants, 4-0, in National League action at Petco Park. The standout performance belonged to San Diego pitcher and Lower Merion, Pennsylvania, native Jack Kochanowicz. San Diego is now 24-28, San Francisco 27-25.
Eric Maxwell had a big 2-run home run for the Padres in the bottom of the third inning. With San Diego leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a cutter from Tauren Shera, who is tied for 7th in the NL in strikeouts with 69, and punished it. The result was his 8th home run of the season, which put the Padres on top, 3-0.
Maxwell called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
