Cubs Score Late, Stun Blue Jays, 2-0
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Chicago Cubs and the Toronto Blue Jays, Jim Willis, who finished 5th in the NL in wins with 14 in 2030, proved to be the difference. The Chicago right-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-0 Cubs win. Steve Rattray picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Josh Gibson suffered the loss. Jarod Glass picked up his 8th save of the season.
Steve Poe, who finished 5th in the AL in slugging percentage with .562 in 2027, chipped in a 2-run home run for Chicago in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the designated hitter had 3 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"When Jim is on, he can really move the ball around," said Chicago manager Cubs Manager.
The 5th-place Blue Jays dropped to 22-23.
