After a 5-hit effort to lead Houston (GCL)'s 25-0 victory over the Detroit E (GCL) Tigers East, center fielder Richi Gonzalez told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Gulf Coast Rookie League-level is really something special."

The 19-year-old player earned his accolades today at Joker Marchant Stadium with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Tigers East.

"His swing is getting there," said Astros skipper , who spoke glowingly of Gonzalez after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Richi did that to perfection today."

Richi Gonzalez hit a two-run home run off Michael Morales in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Michael Morales in the 3rd, walked in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 6th, walked in a run in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 9th.
