The Baltimore Orioles got a superb performance from pitcher Jamie Westbrooks. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Cincinnati. The Reds won the game, 2-1. Westbrooks threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball. Cincinnati reliever Doug Caputo picked up the win. Pat Guilford, who finished 3rd in the AL in wins with 16 last year, took the loss for Baltimore. The loss puts Baltimore at 14-17.
The decisive blow was delivered by Carlos Colmenarez in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run home run off 29-year old right-handed pitcher Pat Guilford to win the game for Cincinnati. The home crowd went nuts.
"What a buzz," said Colmenarez after it was over.
