League Punishes Pair for Fighting Sunday, June 19th , 2061 Yesterday at Recreation Park Harry Spender and Sam Auten got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Ventura Gulls and Martinez Clippers. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Spender will have to sit out 5 while Auten would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. This year, Spender has hit at a .167 pace and produced 0 RBIs, no home runs and scored 5 runs. On the season, Auten has a 0-3 record with a 5.55 ERA. |
