League Issues 3-Game Suspensions for Brawl Sunday, May 22nd , 2061 There were a few hotheads at the Hudson Valley-Virginia Beach game at George M. Steinbrenner Field yesterday, but the cooler heads prevailed and kept fisticuffs to a minimum. It all started when Armen Macaluso of the Renegades and Javier Scalera of the Mariners apparently exchanged some verbal unpleasantries and rushed at one another and began wrestling on the ground. Both benches emptied, but didn't get involved other than a little shoving. Order was quickly restored, the two instigators were ejected by the umpires and the game continued. The league office took quick action and today announced that both players would be suspended 3 games for inappropriate on-field behavior. So far this season, Macaluso has 5 home runs and a .268 batting average. This year, Scalera has made 10 relief appearances with no saves. In 14 innings, he has permitted 15 hits, fanned 20 hitters and recorded no wins and no losses with a 6.43 ERA. |
