Pirates Sheffield and Reds Schwartz Suspended for Fight Saturday, May 5th , 2035 Yesterday at Best Buy Ballpark Gary Sheffield and Kevin Schwartz got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Sheffield will have to sit out 4 while Schwartz would be given a 8-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. Presently Sheffield is batting .303 with 30 hits and 3 home runs. He has knocked in 18 runs and scored 13 times. Checking out his stats for the season, Schwartz has notched 1 win and 2 losses in 6 starts, 4.01 ERA and struck out 22 batters in 33.2 innings. |
