Perez Raps Chicago for 5 Hits
Friday, August 28th, 2026
A jubilant David Perez joined the postgame press conference at Globe Life Park in Arlington today to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Chicago Cubs pitching staff he had just vanquished.

"It may not have looked like it," said the Texas Rangers second baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."

That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led the Rangers to a 12-1 win.

"He made it look easy," said Jorge Garza, manager of the Cubs. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."

David Perez singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Mike Verdin in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th and doubled in the 7th.

Perez is batting .256 this year with 9 home runs, 27 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He has 44 hits in 172 at-bats.
