Mark Reaches 2000 Milestone Tuesday, September 16th , 2042 For Matt Mark, it was a red-letter day. The Cleveland Spiders left fielder slapped his 2000th career hit. That his team defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-2, made it even sweeter. His manager paid tribute to Mark after the game: "I've followed Matt since he came into the league," he said. "Fine ballplayer. Fine work ethic. I'm not surprised by what he's achieved." The 34-year-old Mark finished the day with 2 hits in 4 at-bats.
