Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Olympia Spartans and Bend Rafters.
The Olympia Spartans picked up a win at Ballpark of Victoria, topping the Bend Rafters, 4-1. On the mound for Olympia was right-hander Jim Fitz. He played a principal role in the triumph. The winner was Aaron Purvis in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Lennox Karger took the loss. Zac Aragon finished the game for Olympia and earned his 11th save.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Alex Miller came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Bend pitcher Lennox Karger, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Olympia on top, 2-1.
In postgame remarks, Miller hailed his team's "single-minded determination."
The triumph puts Olympia at 30-15 for the season.
