Tigers Suffer 8-6 Home Loss
|
The West Virginia Black Bears beat the Connecticut Tigers, 8-6, at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium. West Virginia left fielder Tracy Alix collected 3 singles and 1 double, while driving in 1 runs. West Virginia starter Frederick Hilton was credited with the win after throwing 76 pitches over 6 innings. His record now stands at 3-2. Kyle Archer got the save, the 1st for him this season.
With runs few and far between, the Black Bears had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for West Virginia came in the top of the first inning, when right fielder Xavier Alderete delivered a 2-run double. The double was hit off Reggie Gagnon and made the score 2-0, Black Bears. Alderete was 1 for 5 with a double, while adding 2 RBI.
In comments to the West Virginia Bulletin, Alderete admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
West Virginia now has a record of 31-24 with the win.
