Ironbirds Take Tight Tilt
|
Fans watched the Aberdeen Ironbirds and the Brooklyn Cyclones fight to the finish.
In a close game at Ripken Stadium, the Aberdeen Ironbirds edged the Brooklyn Cyclones, 3-2. Aberdeen first baseman Stephen Zwemke stood apart with his performance. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Brent McRae, the winner, goes to 4-5. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits, with 3 walks and 1 strikeout over 5.1 innings.
With Aberdeen leading 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Zwemke hit a slider from Dermot Carpenter for a solo home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Ironbirds ahead, 3-1.
"Every loss stings," said Brooklyn manager Marc Fulghum. "This one is no exception."
Aberdeen is 5th in the New York-Penn League South Division with a record of 30-26.
