Black Bears Beat Batavia, 3-2
|
The West Virginia Black Bears had to overcome a fine performance from Batavia pitcher Zachary Turley to grab a 3-2 win at Dutchess Stadium. Turley allowed 1 run over 6.1 innings. West Virginia has now reeled off 6 straight wins.
West Virginia won the game in the bottom of the 12th inning. With no outs and Mason Vlahovich on the mound for Batavia, catcher Michael Durham hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Black Bears fans to their feet.
During his postgame press conference, Black Bears manager Scott Meissner told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
