Sea Unicorns Lose, 9-5, in 11
Thanks in large part to designated hitter Gavin Simpson, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes clipped the Gold Beach Sea Unicorns, 9-5, in 11 innings. Simpson went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Brad Richmond, now 3-1, was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 0 and walking 0. Salem-Keizer, now 14-18, holds down 7th place in the Northwest League South Division.

Salem-Keizer used the timely hitting of Corey Kahlert to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Volcanoes on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Kahlert called the extra-inning win a "confidence builder."
