The Olympia Spartans overcame a pretty good performance by Eugene third baseman Javy García, beating the Emeralds, 7-5, at Ballpark of Victoria. García was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. With the loss, Eugene falls to 3-8.

The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Chris Brkic came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Eugene pitcher Reid Childress, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Olympia on top, 6-5.

"It all comes down to competing and our guys love to compete," said Spartans manager Jim Todd.
