The Boise Hawks had to overcome a big game from Eugene third baseman Perry LaMaster to leave Memorial Stadium with a victory. And they did, winning, 6-5. LaMaster was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Joel Potthast snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 1.2 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season. With the win, Boise is 4-4.

The Hawks beat the Emeralds in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Josue Valdez produced in the bottom of the eighth. Batting against Wilson Richardson, Valdez gave his team the lead, 6-5, when he hit a run-scoring single.

"Good, blue-collar kind of win," said Hawks manager Nick Rodriguez.
