Cavalry Slip Past Wenatchee, 1-0
|
The Wenatchee Chiefs inaugurated the 2058 campaign with a disappointing 1-0 loss to the New Westminster Cavalry at Chiefs Stadium. New Westminster right fielder Oliver Costa had a big impact on the outcome. He was 1 for 1. Kyle Rustad claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. His record stands at 1-0. J.R. Reyes earned the save for New Westminster, his 1st of the year.
Had Costa not come through in the top of the ninth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Costa hit a run-scoring single. The Cavalry took the lead, 1-0, and never looked back.
In postgame remarks, Costa applauded his team's "resolve."
