The Virginia Black Bears got a superb performance from pitcher José Luís De La Cruz, but the Philadelphia Phillies still won the game, 5-4. De La Cruz threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball. Virginia falls to 6-16.

An important at-bat for the Phillies came in the top of the ninth, when third baseman Kyle Negulescu stroked a 3-run home run. That made the score 5-4 in favor of Philadelphia. For the day, Negulescu was 1-5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.

"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Negulescu told the Philadelphia Daily News.
