Vermont Downed, 9-5, by Rapids
|
Niagara Falls took on Vermont in front of a lively crowd.
The inspired effort of Vermont third baseman Sawyer Cox was not enough to prevent a loss, 9-5, to the Niagara Falls Rapids. Cox was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Niagara Falls reliever Wendell Schumacher got the win, raising his record to 1-5. Moe Skinner was tagged with the loss.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Freddy Sarakul came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Vermont pitcher Moe Skinner, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Niagara Falls on top, 6-5.
Sarakul said, "Whether you hit the ball hard, you walk, you have a long at-bat, 10 or 12 pitches, or you hit a homer, you're just trying to do anything you can do to help the team win."
Niagara Falls, at 36-32, occupies 4th place in the New York-Penn League North Division.
