The umbrellas came out during the Salem-Keizer-Youngstown contest at Volcanoes Stadium.

The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes withstood an impressive performance by Youngstown designated hitter David Etcheverry to defeat the Gremlins, 4-3, at Volcanoes Stadium. Etcheverry went 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Salem-Keizer reliever Nicolas Burrows picked up the win to move to 1-0. Oliver Latimer suffered the loss.

Glen Brown, who is tied for 7th in the NWL in hits with 43, contributed to the Salem-Keizer win with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.

Brown said afterward that he was glad to help his team win.

The win elevated the Volcanoes to 22-12.
