Ironbirds Drop to .500 After 9-6 Loss to Doubledays
|
In the 9-6 Auburn win over Aberdeen, the impact of Gabe Diniz was substantial. Diniz, who is tied for 3rd in the NYP in stolen bases with 21, went 3 for 4 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Gavin Mendenhall, who is tied for 10th in the NYP in holds with 5, earned the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 3-1. Kyle Hartman got credit for the save for Auburn. It was his 17th of the year.
Auburn took the lead, 8-6, on Radley Castillo's 4th home run of the season. The 3-run home run came off Aberdeen pitcher Ben Leingang in the bottom of the seventh.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Auburn manager Carlos Renteria.
Auburn now has a record of 39-27 with the win.
