Doubledays Topple Cyclones, 2-1
|
Jordan Hawks powered the Auburn Doubledays to a win over the Brooklyn Cyclones. The final score was 2-1. The Auburn second baseman, who is tied for 2nd in the NYP in doubles with 19, was a force to be reckoned with. He banged out 3 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 2 doubles. August Alfredsson, who is tied for 6th in the NYP in wins with 5, was the winner in relief. His record is now 5-2. The losing pitcher was Yancarlos Mendez. Elwood Reitano, credited with the save, is now 12 for 13 in save opportunities.
Hawks had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-1 sinker from Yancarlos Mendez, he banged a solo home run to left-center, giving the Doubledays a 2-1 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Hawks.
"Tough loss," said Brooklyn manager Alberto Creech. "This one will sting for a while."
The defeat makes Brooklyn 29-33.
