Valdez Belts Bunch of Base Hits
After a 5-hit effort to lead State College's 15-5 victory over the Tri-City ValleyCats, first baseman Cesar Valdez told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Short Season A-level is really something special."

The 25-year-old player earned his accolades at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the ValleyCats.

"His swing is getting there," said Spikes skipper Bobby Spencer, who spoke glowingly of Valdez after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Cesar did that to perfection."

Cesar Valdez struck out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Doug Matthews in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Colin Roland in the 7th, singled in the 8th and walked in the 9th.

Valdez is hitting at a .339 mark this season. His stats show 6 home runs, 25 RBIs and 40 runs scored. He has played 48 games for the Spikes.
