Volcanoes Outmuscle Yakima Valley, 10-8
|
The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes beat the Yakima Valley Pippins, 10-8, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Volcanoes got a fine performance from pinch hitter Roldan Chaves, who went 1-1 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Robert Kinahan collected save number 10. At 19-11, the Volcanoes find themselves in second place in the Northwest League South Division.
Chaves contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Salem-Keizer in the top of the seventh. With his team trailing 8-5, Chaves took a fastball from Ron Levitt and stroked the home run to left. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Volcanoes to leap in front, 9-8.
"This game had a little bit of everything," said Chaves.
