Spinners Capture Close Win
|
Carlton Merrill did all he could to help his team prevail. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Aberdeen Ironbirds from losing the game, 6-5, to the Lowell Spinners in 12 innings at Edward A. LeLacheur Park. Merrill was 3-3 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Lowell reliever Sebastian Leal was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Kelsey Peer took the loss. The third-place Spinners bumped their record to 35-22.
In the bottom of the 12th, Dean Briggs knew he could end it with one good swing of the bat. And he did, hitting a run-scoring single off Aberdeen pitcher Todd Maybon.
"This place was electric at the end," Briggs said.
