Tigers Suffer 6-3 Setback
West Virginia and Connecticut got after it at Dutchess Stadium.

Alfredo Avalos was instrumental in his team's 6-3 triumph over the Connecticut Tigers. The center fielder was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles for the West Virginia Black Bears. The winning pitcher was Lindsey Duffy. He tossed 80 pitches over 5.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. John Williamson was called on to finish, recording his 11th save.

The Black Bears got a big at-bat from third baseman Yeremias Villafranca. For the game, Villafranca was 1 for 5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 9th home run of the season gave West Virginia a 5-3 lead.

"This is not a one-man show," said Avalos. "A lot of the guys stepped up."
