Doubledays Hand Niagara Falls 4-2 Loss
|
Starting pitcher John Howell was a major factor in the 4-2 Auburn Doubledays triumph over the Niagara Falls Rapids. Auburn reliever August Alfredsson picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. J.D. Hofmann took the loss. Auburn is now 22-32.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Stewart Cicero came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Niagara Falls pitcher Victor Leek, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Auburn on top, 3-2.
"I thought John threw the ball well across the board," said Auburn manager Carlos Renteria.
