The Connecticut Tigers faced a tough opponent in State College pitcher Jaxon Kilgore, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium by a final score of 3-2. Kilgore went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. The win was credited to fireballing right-hander Donald Van Riper in relief. His record improves to 1-3. James Born took the loss. Finley Timmons was called on to finish, recording his 4th save.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Skip Thompson came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing State College pitcher T.J. Hogeland, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Connecticut on top, 3-2.
Thompson attributed the win to his team's "determination."
The win puts Connecticut at 20-33.
