Black Bears Tack 7-4 Loss on Lowell
|
The West Virginia Black Bears overcame a good performance by Lowell catcher Michel Melo to knock off Lowell, 7-4, at Edward A. LeLacheur Park. Melo went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Israel Orozco, who threw 91 pitches over 6 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 6 hits. West Virginia, now 35-19, holds down third place in the New York-Penn League South Division.
It could have been a different outcome for West Virginia, had it not been for Ximenes Armenta, the 20-year old second baseman . Armenta contributed a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put West Virginia up, 7-0.
Armenta told the West Virginia Daily News: "Win or lose, I don't want to see our team outhustled."
