The Aberdeen Ironbirds cruised to a win over the Staten Island Pizza Rats, 12-0, at Ripken Stadium. Kelsey Shanks, who is tied for 2nd in the NYP in runs scored with 45, led the way, going 3-for-3 for Aberdeen. Mateo González was the winner. He's now 4-4. The loser was Roy McMahan. Ben Leingang, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
Aberdeen got a big at-bat from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native Elvys Armendariz, who in the bottom of the third hit a grand slam home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Ironbirds ahead, 8-0.
"Not much went right for us," Staten Island manager Max Collison said, when asked afterward about the game.
The 8th-place Pizza Rats now sit at 13-39.
