Mondragon Pops Two Homers in 9-7 Win for Aberdeen
|
The Connecticut Tigers and Aberdeen Ironbirds left the fans buzzing.
The Aberdeen Ironbirds beat the Connecticut Tigers, 9-7, with major props going to left fielder Von Mondragon. On the day, Mondragon slugged 2 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice for the Ironbirds. Weston Giza closed it out for Aberdeen, earning his 8th save.
With Aberdeen trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the third, Mondragon hit a fastball from Eric Tolliver for a grand slam home run. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Ironbirds ahead, 5-4.
Ironbirds manager Alden Fuentes wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
The 7th-place Ironbirds bumped their record to 27-27.
