Despite a fine performance by shortstop Matthew Huckleberry, the Vermont Lake Monsters lost to the Brooklyn Cyclones, 8-7. Huckleberry went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Finnegan Murphy notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now sits at 2-0. Logan Light earned his 11th save, after closing out the game.

The Cyclones beat the Lake Monsters in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Prométheo Ybarra produced in the bottom of the seventh. Batting against Moe Skinner, Ybarra gave his team the lead, 8-7, when he hit a run-scoring single.

"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Brooklyn manager Solomon Osorio.

The Cyclones move to 24-23 with the win, while the Lake Monsters drop to 20-27.
