The Vermont Lake Monsters beat the West Virginia Black Bears, 5-3, at Dutchess Stadium. Vermont designated hitter Jason Wilkinson led the way. He was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. The winning pitcher was Heriberto De León. His record now stands at 1-0. The right-hander went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits for the Lake Monsters. Dillon Aldridge earned save number 3.
Second Baseman Yared Ariza made an impact for Vermont, when he swatted a 2-run home run off Andy Maloney in the top of the third. For the contest, Ariza went 1 for 5 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"My job is to go out and play as hard as I can for the Lake Monsters," said Wilkinson.
