Tri-City Picks Up Another L
West Virginia Black Bears starter Andy Shankman was dealing, as his team thumped the Tri-City ValleyCats, 9-1. In 5.2 innings, Shankman surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Brandon DeGeorge earned save number 1.

Duke Cyr had a big 2-run double for the Black Bears in the top of the third inning. With West Virginia leading 3-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a splitter from 20-year old left-handed pitcher Dylan Lowry and swatted a double to left. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Black Bears ahead, 5-1.

"We took a roundhouse punch to the chin," said losing manager Jim Kleeman.

West Virginia is 23-21 and Tri-City, with the loss, 13-31.
