Shanks, Ironbirds Fall to Lake Monsters
|
Kelsey Shanks had a good game, but he could not keep the Aberdeen Ironbirds from falling, 9-8, to the Vermont Lake Monsters at Ripken Stadium. The Aberdeen center fielder was 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 in the loss. Vermont reliever Morey Wood picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Wyatt Turner was saddled with the loss. Tracy Hardy wrapped it up, recording his 2nd save.
Vermont needed the clutch hitting of Nicky Sewell to seal the deal. The designated hitter swatted a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Lake Monsters on top, 9-8. For the game, Sewell had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said Vermont manager Charles Chaney.
The 4th-place Lake Monsters go to 22-20.
