Oquendo Hits Two Homers in 6-4 Win for Vermont
|
Rich Oquendo impressed in the 6-4 Vermont win over Niagara Falls. Oquendo, who is tied for 8th in the NYP in stolen bases with 5, went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 4. The win went to Lee Van Dyne in relief, making him now 1-1. Morton Rose took the loss for Niagara Falls. Dillon Aldridge earned the save, his 1st, for the Lake Monsters.
Oquendo had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a first pitch fastball from Morton Rose, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Lake Monsters a 6-4 lead. It was the 6th home run of the year for Oquendo.
Oquendo expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
The Lake Monsters saw their win-loss record go to 22-19. At the same time, the Rapids fell to 21-20.
