Lake Monsters Best Red Wings, 8-5
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Hamilton first baseman Florian Bartlett by beating the Red Wings, 8-5, at Red Wings Ballpark. Bartlett went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The winning pitcher was Kevin Howard. He's now 3-1. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits for the Lake Monsters. Tony Wozniczka closed the game out for Vermont, earning his 4th save.
Vermont needed the clutch hitting of Justin Connors to seal the deal. The third baseman swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Lake Monsters on top, 6-4. For the game, Connors had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
Vermont manager Charles Chaney was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys went out there and put good wood on the ball," he said.
The Lake Monsters move to 19-14 with the win, while the Red Wings drop to 16-17.
