Tigers Clip Doubledays in Tight Contest, 2-1
|
In a low-scoring game between the Connecticut Tigers and the Auburn Doubledays, pitcher Todd Tanner was masterful on the mound. The Connecticut right-hander spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. Giovanni Skinner picked up the win in relief. Troy Lavin took the loss for Auburn. Connecticut has won 5 consecutive games.
T.J. Fine drove in one run for Connecticut. The 21-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Troy Lavin. It was his 14th RBI of the season.
"It's not about individual awards," Tanner told a Connecticut Times reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."
