State College shortstop Jim O'Neil had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 5-3, to West Virginia at Dutchess Stadium. O'Neil was 2-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. Auderico Frausto, now 2-0, was credited with the win in 3 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 1. Calvin Kuhns sewed up the save, his 5th.

Center Fielder Tony Preston made an impact for West Virginia, when he swatted a run-scoring double off Melvin Concepcion in the bottom of the second. For the contest, Preston was 1-3 with a double and a walk.

"It was sure nice to get the win but there's a lot of baseball left," Preston after the game.

With the win, the Black Bears have a record of 12-10.
