The Aberdeen Ironbirds took on the Tri-City ValleyCats at Ripken Stadium.

Behind the hitting of Smokin' Jay Blade, the Aberdeen Ironbirds stopped the Tri-City ValleyCats, 9-2. Blade was 4-4 with 4 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs for the Ironbirds. B.J. Rogers, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 4 hits in 4.1 innings.

The ValleyCats had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Ironbirds going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old third baseman Owen Avalos came to the plate. Avalos hit a 3-run home run on a 0-2 splitter from Tri-City hurler Shawn Murphy. It was Avalos's 3rd home run of the year.

"I thought we played some darn good baseball," said Ironbirds manager Alden Fuentes.

The 7th-place ValleyCats now sit at 6-12.
