Red Wings Foil Black Bears, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring game between the Hamilton Red Wings and the West Virginia Black Bears, pitcher Ted Bond was the difference-maker. The Hamilton right-hander was tough as nails in the 3-1 Red Wings win. Bond, now 3-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Harrison Sandburg stitched up the save, his 7th.
Carson Hermiller had a big solo home run for the Red Wings in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Hamilton leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from Hunter Wallace and swatted a home run to left. It was his 3rd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Wings ahead, 3-1.
"Ted was really on it," said Hamilton manager Rex Tutt. "He's got a feel for playing with the hitter front-to-back, side-to-side."
Hamilton has an impressive 10-5 record.
